RC Enerson Will Drive Top Gun Racing's Indy 500 Entry this May
The makings of IndyCar’s next team are housed in tiny, unassuming warehouse at the end of a rolling driveway in the far outskirts of Indianapolis. No roadside signage, nothing to make you even wonder if the man with the small office space inside those garage doors had been hard at work the past 24 months to put together a racing program to run with the Penskes, Ganassis and Andrettis of the world.
But Bill Throckmorton has a clear path. A hard right out that driveway, onto Crawfordsville Road, and in 10 minutes, the new team co-owner is at the foot of the Racing Capital of the World. It’s a stone’s throw away from the future digs he and partner Gary Trout plan to move in to in a matter of weeks when rubber meets the road on the formation of Top Gun Racing.
A lack of fan presence was all that kept them out of August’s Indy 500, they say, due to sponsor arrangements. And with how fan attendance for sporting events is trending in Indiana, as well as across the country, there’s virtually no doubt of the viability of what would be this year’s 32nd confirmed car for the 105th Indy 500, to be driven by 500 rookie R.C. Enerson.
